Excellent writing and views. Thank you very much.

Thank you also for the rest of the articles, spceially de l'integrisme. You should send them to newspapers.

Not only these two concerts but all concerts without Ziad or a proper orchestra are mediocre.

thx for ur comments. u are absolutely right! all her concerts without Ziad or proper orchestra are mediocre. These 2 concerts( beiteddine 2002 & Pleyel) were only exemples...

I still think you should combine this article and integrisme commenting on all similar concerts and translate it into arabic and publish it in a Lebanese newspaper.

Thanks for your concern. After Beiteddine 2002 concerts, it was reported that some members of the orchestra said that people were listening to some disc they have in mind and not to what was played on stage.
I don't think people (lebanese especially) are ready to revisit Fairuz art away from all the symbolism she carries ...not even the lebanese press (except one musical critic in Al Akhbar-Bachir Sfeir)...it is just like screaming in the desert...

So then you must translate them and send them to a newspaper so there would be another voice, stressing the unmusicality and mediocrity or these concerts, I think alakhbar would publish them easily. Thanks a lot.

Anonyme a dit…

Thanks and so you SHOULD just translate what you wrote here and send them to a newspaper, stessing the unmusicality and mediocrity of these concerts to be another voice.

I hae sent a commentary but did not get published...I'm not sure if the webmaster of the site received it, I would just like to say that you do HAVE to write these two articles into arabic and send them to Al Akhbar exactly as they are, or at least just l'integrismm, and you should include that all sismilar concerts such as the latest one in Athens. They will be another voice in the desert and something good to shed light on when no one else does.

No plan yet to send your integrisme note in arabic to newspapers?

it is half dissapointing to see Dubai 2001 on DVD, but what is really disgusting is Las Vegas's concert on DVD.

Nice photo...much better than the ugly 70s photos when fairouz became like a presenter more than an artist in mediocre plays post 1973.

Novalib a dit…

you are absolutely right about Las Vegas and post 1973 plays....Vegas is not worth mentioning, a third class oriental folk show...
As for the photos...it is a pity that only some of Fairuz photos( like Petra's) are usually shown while she had been photographed during the 50's & 60's by masters of photography in Lebanon and abroad...i 've been planning to write something about the photos issue...there are some interesting and very little kown infos about...

Yes unfortunately the plays and the photos of post 1973 are the most popular while they're the worst. Its sad that Fairouz does not try to concentrate on pre 1973 works, instead we some mediocre songs from those plays and she has remained in the context of the mediocre concerts that became abundant after 1973 when no real art was being produced, just like now with most of her work, no real art.

Anonyme a dit…

correcting "no real art" I meant all her work without Ziad. Ziad brings back the pre 1973 kind of serious work, and Fairouz alone is sitill doing the mediocrity that came afterwards.

Unfortunately great concerts like the maazing London one in 1994 is forgotten and others such as Las Vegas is out on DVD. ESO much musicality in London. Just like the shallow post 73 plays being popular.

I wanted to comment on the latest blog entry but there was no place to post a comment there. You're quite right that other sites are quite vulgar.

Unfortunately Fairouz ruined the concept of the old pre 1973 works as much as Mansour Rahbani did. In Las Vegas Fairouz was the Fairouz which Mansour creates, the singer which sings the "old". Both Fairouz and Mansour kept this concept. The concerts of after 1973 are very different than those of pre 1973. Fairouz who sings what was called in qasidat hob as the "old" is Mansour's creation. Mansour went into special effects and historcial plays, and Fairouz went into extremely disgusting songs for Philimone and disugsting renditions of old songs to make them sound folkloric. Just like the arab il maw3ad song in Las Vegas. And by going for Philimon Wehbe's songs, and keeping others like B7ibak ya Libnan she ruined the freshness of the old songs.

With Assi's remembrance coming up, you should write something similar to your blog entries here in a newspaper to clear up what real music is.
